Of course, clothing, wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses are essential protection, especially between 11am and 3pm (the period when the sun's rays are most aggressive), but they must be combined with sun protection adapted to the situation and to your phototype.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The <strong><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\">phototype<\/span><\/strong> classifies individuals according to their <a href=\"https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/en\/sos-dermato\/4328-hyperpigmentation-taches-cutanees\/\">physical characteristics<\/a> and their level of risk in relation to sun exposure, as shown in the illustration below:<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-4528 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/phototypes-protection-solaire-hyfac-peau.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"810\" height=\"431\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/phototypes-protection-solaire-hyfac-peau.png 2624w, https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/phototypes-protection-solaire-hyfac-peau-300x160.png 300w, https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/phototypes-protection-solaire-hyfac-peau-1024x545.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 810px) 100vw, 810px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Some people and some situations present more risks to skin health than others: we are all <strong><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\">unequal to the sun<\/span><\/strong>. Thus, blondes and redheads produce a particular melanin (pheomelanin) which does not effectively protect the skin. As a result, these phototypes present a major risk of skin cancers. Only a very high level of sun protection can be recommended on exposed areas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\"><strong>What is the difference between filters and sunscreens?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"justify\">Sun protection products are effective if they are <a href=\"https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/en\/sos-dermato\/4324-le-soleil-et-la-peau\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\">anti-UVA and UVB<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. There are protective products on the market that contain sunscreens.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The <span style=\"color: #fd4700;\"><strong>sun filters<\/strong><\/span> used in certain products penetrate the surface of the epidermis and absorb UV radiation for a given wavelength. The <span style=\"color: #fd4700;\"><strong>sunscreen products<\/strong><\/span>As for them, they remain on the surface of the skin and reflect white light for a given wavelength as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\">How to find your way through the sun protection indexes?<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The protection index is measured differently for <a href=\"https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/en\/sos-dermato\/4324-le-soleil-et-la-peau\/\">UVA and UVB radiation<\/a>\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-4423 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/spf-protection-solaire-hyfac.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"239\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/spf-protection-solaire-hyfac.jpeg 1002w, https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/spf-protection-solaire-hyfac-279x300.jpeg 279w, https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/spf-protection-solaire-hyfac-953x1024.jpeg 953w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 239px) 100vw, 239px\" \/><strong><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\">Protection against UVB<\/span><\/strong> For UVB, the <strong><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\">SPF<\/span><\/strong> (Solar Protection Factor). This index is measured on the skin of volunteers on the back. The time taken for redness to appear on a small area of skin not protected by a sun protection product and on a protected area, after exposure to an artificial UVB source, is measured.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"justify\">CLEAR: An SPF 30 rating for a sunscreen product means that it takes 30 times more UVB (i.e. 30 times longer exposure) to cause a sunburn on the protected area than on the unprotected area, regardless of phototype.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\"><strong>UVA protection<\/strong><\/span> To know the UVA protection index, it is more complicated because UVA does not make the skin redden. We therefore use other measurement techniques.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-4425 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/hyfac.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-2018-03-21-\u00e0-14.47.25.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"52\" height=\"47\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">In practice, the SPF is written on the tubes of sun protection products. The logo opposite is added if the value obtained for the UVA index measurement is at least one third of the SPF value.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\"><strong>How to properly apply your sun protection product?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Apply sun protection <strong><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\">a quarter of an hour before the exhibition<\/span><\/strong>In sufficient quantity (\"more like two layers than one!\").<\/li>\n<li>Do not forget the ears, neck, nose, hands and feet.<\/li>\n<li>Use recent products (beware of expiry dates), seal them well after use and keep them in the shade.<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #fd4700;\">Renew the application<\/span><\/strong> every 2 hours or so, or after swimming or excessive sweating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How to protect your skin from the sun?
