What about smoking on acne?

tobacco

Tobacco is harmful to the skin, we know today that it promotes early aging (with more wrinkles and more marked) and is responsible for a dull and blurred complexion.

Le tabac favorise-t-il l’acné?

If the answers to this question are sometimes contradictory, studies show that it would finally favour retentional lesions, i.e. dilated pores, blackheads and microcysts, but that it would have an antiflammatory action and would therefore protect against papules and pustules.

Tobacco, and in particular the nicotine it contains, increases the differentiation and proliferation of keratinocytes, i.e. the cells of the skin. The excretory ducts of the sebaceous glands become "keratinized" and thicken, hindering the flow of sebum and obstructing the pores: open comedones (blackheads) and closed comedones (microcysts) are formed; in general, the skin thickens and the complexion becomes blurred

The effects of smoking on wound healing

This is particularly true for teenagers, but also for some adults, where acne is favoured by other factors such as genetic factors, hormonal, food or the stress, le tabac apparaît alors comme un cofacteur aggravant.

Although smoking does not directly cause acne, it aggravates it and promotes scarring.
